The lawn specialists - Listen to the grass growing

The approach to a perfect lawn is one of the tasks of the lawn specialists at WOLF-Garten. The largest lawn research centre in Europe is located in Betzdorf in the Westerwald where, under the leadership of the agronomist Dr. Harald Nonn, five specialists work with computers, in the laboratory, in the greenhouse and, of course, amid extensive lawn trial areas "with everything that affects lawns". Not only laypersons are able to obtain advice there by telephone and in public seminars for problems with their green grass carpet. Cooperation with universities and companies has also shown how great is the need for information on the subject of lawns. "After all, the species of lawn researcher isn't all too numerous", the Betzdorf Green Leader acknowledges.
More than 1,000 enquiries are answered every year; right at the top of the question hit-list is the desire for a lawn mixture for semi to fully shaded locations. The response to this is the WOLF-Garten »Supra« lawn seed. It is the result of the current state of knowledge in the research field. The specialists at WOLF-Garten continue their work in search of improvements to facilitate lawn maintenance further, and to gain even more time for enjoyment of the garden. 

In fact, lawns have only become popular in Europe since WW2. WOLF-Garten was a driving force for development right from the start. This began with the selection of grass plants that grow not so much in height to produce cattle fodder, but instead are broad and give good coverage and are also "walk resistant". Even today, cheap lawn seed mixtures are easily distinguished from our own: If the area grows tall and gaps form, then they are cheap meadow grasses; on the other hand, if the growth is even and dense, it is lawn seed of the highest quality. 

Not only seed mixtures, but also all fertilizing and maintenance steps have been perfected at the WOLF-Garten Lawn Institute. Starting with the development of the first lawnmowers in Europe, the people at Betzdorf have promoted the optimization of lawn maintenance. The WOLF-Garten machine and gardening equipment designers work in close cooperation with the lawn researchers here. This teamwork guarantees that technical advancement is not pursued as an end in itself, but rather that your needs for garden maintenance products are the starting point for the development of all products.

Similarly, research into fertilizer has always been one of the tasks of the WOLF-Garten Lawn Research Institute. Typical for the fertilizer mixtures from WOLF-Garten is that they do not work in bursts but rather are sustained over a long period. Two deposit fertilizations are adequate for the whole season. Plenty of nitrogen - little phosphorus and, as protection against cold and dryness, sufficient potassium - that's how the recipe for success is summed up.
